Baseball

OU MAY NOT THINK of baseball (BAZE-bahl) as domestic, but I do. It is America's favorite pastime, afterall, and what could be more American/National than that?

Ah, bazeball...I love this season. There's nothing like the smell of the grass at Safeco, the Mariner's Moose, Captain Plastic, my binoculars, and season tickets. Yep, full season. Envy me because I haven't had to scramble to win, find, buy, steal, or get scalped to get M's tickets this year. I share the season with my friend, Kelly. He takes mostly the weekend games and I take the weekday games. 41 games is plenty of baseball, even for me. The M's continue to do well and look promising for post-season play again. RIGHT ON!

DomestiCity's Baseball Trivia Question of the Week: In 1936, Pittsburgh's Honus Wagner and four other players became the first group elected to the Hall of Fame. Name three of the other four players.

To go to a game at Safeco is to become a believer of Sodo Mojo. What is "Sodo Mojo," you ask? SoDo stands for South of the Dome, the neighborhood where Safeco Field was built, and MoJo is defined as "a magic spell, hex or charm." Mojo is also the mystical life force championed by blues musicians and international men of mystery. No wonder I see so many men at Mariners games, then. <wink>

Ya know that wind up thang that Ichiro does each time he prepares for a pitch? It's always the same, each and every time: one full rotation, slides up the bat, makes eye contact with the pitcher, then Ichiro pulls his sleeve towards his shoulder. The press says that he is focusing, but did ya know that is Tai Chi? No kidding. That circular swing is a classic move that rids away with the bad energy and brings in the good. The best of east meets west. Why the media won't call it what it is perplexes me. Any ideas about that? Lemme know.

Did you hear the one about the ladies drinking Jack at Safeco?...No?....Well then pay close attention, as there will be a quiz: Three elderly ladies are excited about their first Mariners game. They smuggle a bottle of Jack Daniels into Safeco Field <gasp!>. The game is really exciting and they are having a grand ol' time with their JD mixed with soft drinks. Soon they realize that the bottle of Jack Daniels is almost gone and the game has a lot of innings to go.

Using the clues given,

  1. Which inning is the game in?
  2. What is the status of the game?
